Since our happy new year wishes are a tad bit belated, we thought this colorful design project by Japanese artist Yayoki Kusama a fun way to say cheers to 2012!

Then, she put her inhibitions, along with what could have easily been millions of multi-colored stickers, into the hands of a groups of kids and let them do (or decorate) as they saw fit.
Disastrous? Potentially. But Kusama clearly had a more faith in this group of young artists than we would.

The result turned out to be one of Kusama's signature works, an installation she calls the "Obliteration Room" for its complete destruction of every trace of white space.
For 40 years Kusama has used her "obliteration" technique to create paintings, sculptures and photographs using dots to cover surfaces, as she had the children do here.
