Field Trip Friday: Overbey & Dunn

We don't know about you, but the end of the week really ramps up our longing to get away. Since we don't have the luxury of taking off (does anyone have summer Fridays anymore?) we've found the perfect substitute right here at home in NYC.

Just a few buildings into the famed Christopher Street in the West Village, two fashion insiders, Molly Kavanagh and Thomas Dunn (he did fashion PR, she's a full-figured model), have set up a pop-up shop of sorts called Overbey & Dunn. The "concept" boutique features an entirely new design and collection of merchandise every two to three months.

The newest installation is a collaboration with interior designer Scott Sanders and a study in beach-house chic décor. We stopped in to Sanders' "Summer Cottage" for a chat with co-owner Molly and felt like we'd been transported to Main St. New England or some laid-back coastal town out West.

The merch, which Tom and Molly snap up on travels around the country and on frequent trips to antique markets, is eclectic and perfectly curated. We spotted a wicker swing chair and set of iridescent champagne coups dying to be bought and used at our next outdoor affair. In fact, everything you see in the store, props included, is for sale. (The more you buy, the easier it is to swap out the décor, we suppose.)

A trip back is definitely on the agenda when they change over this seaside scenario to a swanky men's boudoir in August. (For their opening back in April the store was designed like a studio apartment with lavender walls, a clean-lined sofa, and dining table for four up front.) Until then, check out these pics of Scott Sanders beachy abode. Surf's up!

I have my eye on that tent/awning in the ceiling. Growing up I always wanted one in my bedroom.

My mistake, Adrienne, Tom Dunn made the canopy and it's for sale at the shop. An act of DIY genius no less! :)
